To demonstrate community based restoration and management of irrigation systems by water user's associations, and taking into consideration social justice through the involvement of small and marginal farmers, tail enders and women in decision making, ASA has intervened in participatory canal irrigation management.

Key Results

  • Over 13 kms of canal system including 105 structures renovated.

  • Revitalization of irrigation potential from 40% of the design potential (at the project outset in 2003) to 90% of the design potential.

  • Upfront cash contribution of Rs 30 lacs mobilized from community.

  • Providing intellectual inputs to the PIM directorate in the development of Project operational manuals, Capacity building modules for WUAs and WRD personnel, formulation of gender mainstreaming strategy and so on.

  • Initiated policy amendment in the PIM Act incorporating women's participation in PIM

  • Designed and developed audio-visuals, literature, booklets, flyers and other promotional materials.
