Introducing Action for
Social Advancement
Action for Social
Advancement (ASA) is an Indian NGO formed in 1995. The organisation
has a mission to ensure the sustainable livelihoods of people living
in socio-economically disadvantaged communities throughout Indian
states. This goal is achieved through a number of rural development
programmes that encourage the participation of poor villagers’ in
natural resource management and social initiatives, such as Micro
Finance and Women’s Empowerment.
Work
ASA is looking for
skilled volunteers with an interest in the development sector who
can commit 2 or 5 months to gain skills and learn about development
issues in rural India; contributing to ASA’s goals. As a volunteer,
there are a number of opportunities, including:
- Technical
Natural Resource Management Worker;
- Social
Research Assistant;
- Marketing,
Design and Communications Assistant;
- Geographic
Information Systems (GIS) Practitioner; and

Software and Website Developer.
Depending on your skills
and interests, following an induction to ASA and our work, you will
be placed either at our head office in Bhopal or one of the field
unit offices throughout India. Here you be assigned tasks and (as
appropriate to the position) receive training and support to deliver
these projects.
Accommodation and Cost
Comfortable
accommodation will be organised by ASA. To cover this cost (which
includes staff and amenities) as well
as an orientation week at the
beginning of the placement; training and ongoing support whilst in
India, volunteers are asked to contribute £650 in the case of 2
month volunteers and £1200 in the case of 5 month volunteers.
