Introducing ASA Volunteer Action Programme

Action for Social Advancement (ASA) is an Indian NGO formed in 1996. The organisation has a mission to ensure sustainable livelihoods for people living in socio-economically disadvantaged communities throughout various Indian states. This goal is achieved through a number of rural development programmes that encourage the participation of poor villagers in natural resource management as well as social initiatives such as Micro Finance and Women’s Empowerment.

Work

ASA are looking for skilled volunteers with an interest in the development sector who can commit 2 or 5 months to contribute to ASA’s aims, whilst gaining practical experience and learning about development issues in rural India. As a volunteer, there are a number of opportunities within ASA, including:

• Social Research

• Marketing, Design and Communications Assistant

• Micro-finance Assistant

• Geographical Information Systems (GIS) Software and Website Development

• Communications and IEC material development

• Land and Water resources

• Agriculture

• Agri-business

Depending on your skills and interests, and following an induction to ASA, you will be placed either at our head office in Bhopal or one of our field unit offices. You will be assigned tasks and (as appropriate to the position) receive training and support to deliver these projects.

Comfortable accommodation will be organised by ASA. To cover this cost (which includes staff and amenities), as well as an orientation period at the beginning of the placement, and training and ongoing support whilst in India, volunteers are asked to contribute £650 in the case of the 2 month programme and £1200 in the case of the 5 month programme.
