Responsible Crop Initiative – Jimmedar Kheti

ASA’s efforts at improving farm productivity has largely been based on ‘Responsible Crop Initiative (RCI)’ or popularly known as “Jimmedar Kheti”, a form of certification for agricultural practices followed that reduces the environmental and social footprint of agriculture, while increasing yield and productivity for the farmer, making the business of farming more sustainable. These set of practices are also in line with Good Agricultural Practices as propounded by the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations, as well as in line with the proposed objectives of the National Mission on Sustainable Agriculture. The efforts largely complement some of ASA’s other initiatives such as land and water resource development and promotion of Farmer Producer Companies and also carries forward the functional objectives of some of ASA’s other programmes, such as support to Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) ( as well as Responsible Soy bean (RTRS) (

What is ‘Responsible Crop’?

Responsible crop is grown with certain safeguards in place – that lead to effective conservation of land, water and other precious resources, while increasing farm productivity and sustainability of agrarian practices to the farmer. These crops usually command higher prices in agricultural markets and are also valued for exports.
